Once you have found a suitable range of wholesalers (probably through www.wholesalers-directory.co.uk!) spend some time researching the lines you intend to stock and compare prices and choice.

If you are beginning a new business we would always recommend that you do not overstock on any particular item until you get a 'feel' for your customers demands. Also, avoid carrying too many lines at first to avoid overstocking on particular items until you can evaluate their retail sales potential.

Buying too much, too soon, could result in stocks staying on the shelves which would seriously damage your profits. It is sometimes worth trying smaller orders (depending on the minimum order value) to test the market before buying in larger stocks.
